After the catastrophic earthquake in 1667, when the early Renaissance villa was destroyed, a new residence, which presents the present-day villa, was soon erected on the same spot. In the past it fulfilled a residential function, while today villa will house a museum collection of an authentic Dubrovnik estate covering the period between 16th and 20th centuries.

The st. Jerome's chapel from 16th century, on the main walking path leading from the villa to the fountain is valuable due to its architectural qualities and inventory. It is occasionally used for sacral purposes – on st. Jerome Day and for weddings.

Neptune's fountain is unique not only in the territory of the Republic of Dubrovnik but also in the entire Croatian coast. In 176, the original Renaissance fountain was reshaped into a luxurious Baroque nymphaeum with Neptune – the god of the sea, as a central figure of the stone statues composition.

The aqueduct, which was probably built after a great earthquake during the Baroque period, is a unique garden structure in the history of Croatian garden architecture. The fountain in the garden was supplied with water on a 70 meters long aqueduct on 14 arches.

On the land estate in Trsteno, olives have been planted since the 16th century. During the 18th century, olive groves were intensively expanded and olives became the dominant crop. Since 2005 the renovated olive grove (15,370 m2) brings fruit and characteristically high quality oil. About 200 olive trees are grown in this area, which includes 15 different varieties.

In 1905, in the west part of the estate, a new garden began to be arranged on the locality known as Drvarica on the basis of the old olive grove to the one part, and of natural macchia and garrigue vegetation to the other. Exotic and autochthonous flora were planted.

The highest and oldest trees are growing along the aqueduct in the back of the garden. The oriental plane tree (Platanus orientalis L., trunk diameter 565 cm, height 36 m), cypress (Cupressus sempervirens 'Stricta', height 35 m), Aleppo pine (Pinus halepensis Mill., height 35 m) and American lime tree (Tilia americana L., trunk diameter 110 cm, height 35 m) stand out between the largest and the oldest trees.
