Looking into the past through old trees

Program goals:

  • get to know some of the oldest trees of the Lokrum Reserve and the Trsteno Arboretum
  • learn about the importance and role of old trees (with emphasis on olive trees)
  • raise the participants’ awareness for the purpose of preserving old trees
  • spend educational, fun and quality time in nature
  • realize mistakes in the management of old trees
  • get to know the value of trees for man through history and the mythology related to trees

Expected outcomes:

After participating in the educational program, the participants will be able to:

  • Identify old trees and describe the value of old trees
  • Name the types of old trees in the Trsteno Arboretum and the Lokrum Reserve
  • Measure the height and diameter at breast height of a tree
  • Associate old trees with anecdotes from the past and mythology

Participants:

  • high school children (15-18 years old),
  • science students and
  • citizens

Maximum number of participants:

  • 25
